Namo Hospital is a level-4 multi-specialty inpatient and outpatient hospital at the heart of Lodwar town, next to PostBank on Equity Street.
What level 4 actually means
In Kenya, health facilities are graded by what they can actually do. A dispensary treats minor illness. A health centre adds a few beds. A level-4 hospital is the first tier that can admit you, operate on you, image you and run your bloodwork in the same building, at any hour.
For Turkana, that distinction is not paperwork. It is the difference between being treated in Lodwar and being put in a vehicle to Eldoret, several hundred kilometres away, at the exact moment you are least able to travel.
Namo opened as the first hospital of its kind in Lodwar town. Thirty beds, five private wards, a theatre and a laboratory that never close, and specialist consultants who come to Turkana on a monthly rota instead of expecting Turkana to come to them.
